Riverton Railway Station, South Australia, 2006.

Good Afternoon,

How are you all today, OK I hope.
I have never posted the full Photo shoot at the Riverton Railway Station in April 2006.

After talking to the Owner I was able to walk around the site and take my Photos.

I found Ivor Turvey to be very accommodating, and he was ok with me taking Photos of the Station and the Railcars.

I was travelling to Adelaide for a few Days of Railway Photography.

Hard to imagine these 14 photos were taken 14 years ago.

Many thanks to Ivor Turvey for allowing me to take Photographs at his property.

  1. Brian, these are great photos, as are your other heritage ones on this blog.

I have a special interest in the Riverton railway station, as there was a shooting there on the 22nd March 1921, when an Adelaide bound steam train that had arrived from Broken Hill was about to depart.

Percy Brookfield, a member of the NSW Legislative council was shot by a Russian Koorman Tomayoff along with other 4 other passengers, including my wife's great grandfather, William Henry Crowhust. Both men succumbed to their injuries and died as a result soon after.

My wife and I visited the railway station quite a number of years ago, and we could still see the bullet holes in an outside wall of the station, along with a commemorative plaque of the incident. I assume they are still there.

We have a copy of a report of this incident, but unfortunately we cannot acknowledge its source as there are no identifying marks on the report. We'd be happy to scan a copy for you if interested.

    Mike and Marg Woenig.
